Working with a Head

Working with a Head is mostly two things: you talk to it in chat, and you set two dials that decide how much it brings to you. Everything else — triage, drafting, keeping its area organised — the Head does in the background.

Through chat. You pick the Head that owns the area and ask in plain language — “what is still unpaid from last month?”, “draft a reply to this and hold it for me”. It answers in that chat.

Each Head keeps its own conversation history, so you can come back a day later and carry on rather than re-explaining.

What does the escalation threshold change?

Section titled “What does the escalation threshold change?”

The escalation threshold decides how much of a Head’s work reaches you at all. Three settings:

  • Everything — you see each item the Head handles. A routine “can you resend that invoice?” lands in front of you along with the rest.
  • Important — only what the Head judges important. A supplier disputing an invoice reaches you; the resend request does not.
  • Critical-only — quiet unless something is genuinely critical. A customer threatening to cancel reaches you; the disputed invoice is handled without interrupting you.

Lowering the threshold does not hide work — it changes what interrupts you, not what the Head does or records.

The pushback budget decides how often a Head stops and asks before it acts. Also three settings:

  • Just do it — the Head gets on with the work it is allowed to do and tells you afterwards. It files and categorises the incoming invoice; you learn about it after the fact.
  • Confirm risky — routine work proceeds, anything the Head judges risky comes to you first. It prepares the routine replies, but asks before it changes a payment date.
  • Confirm everything — the Head asks before each action. Even filing a document waits for a yes.

They answer different questions. The threshold is how much do I hear about. The budget is how often do I have to say yes.

Set them independently — the useful combinations are usually mixed. Critical-only with Confirm risky gives you a quiet week that still stops at the moments that matter. Everything with Just do it is the opposite: the Head keeps moving and you watch rather than gate.

Autonomy — off, supervised, auto — is a separate per-Head setting, covered on the autonomy dial page.

Heads coordinate with each other over the mesh. A Head that needs something owned by another area — a figure, a document, a decision that is not its to make — goes to the Head that owns it instead of stopping or guessing.

You are not the relay between your own Heads.

  • A sticky chat widget across the app, so you could ask any Head from any screen.
  • A unified thread that continues across web, Teams and WhatsApp.

Neither is built. Chat today is per Head, one conversation each.
